Our Goal

Our riding instruction is tailored to the specifics and details of riding while ensuring our lessons are fun and educational. We wish to share our love of riding with everyone from beginner to advanced and keep safety as the primary goal. Everyone is welcome whether they ride competitively, just for pleasure, or as a new beginner.

At RMF, we believe knowledge on caring for and working with horses is just as important as knowing how to ride. Every student is taught how to catch their horse or pony in the field and how to groom it before and after each ride. Over time, students will be able to do this independently, but to begin, an instructor will accompany each student to the field and oversee grooming. When these tasks are complete, the student will head to the ring with the instructor for their riding lesson.

For safety reasons, all students and guests working around the horses are required to wear closed-toe shoes. We recommend purchasing paddock boots. We also recommend riders wear long pants to protect their legs and tall socks (over the ankle at least). Helmets are required at all times when mounted. If you or your child do not own one, don’t worry! We have helmets in all sizes for you to borrow.

Meet Our Experts

David Sherrer
Owner

David Sherrer has owned and operated Ridge Meadow Horse farm for 30 years and in this time, he has had at least four riding horses for his personal needs and some are hand painted on the front of the barn for all to view. Over the course of these years he has grown the farm to include: individual and small group English Hunter/Jumpers, Summer Camps for the past 20 years and probably the best run ones. Expansion into showing on a local level at intrastate events and trail rides have also been goals. Birthday horse related parties are the best around with the offered facilities on his vast farm of 200 acres. Ridge Meadow Farm has always had the goal to be a friendly place and more family oriented, where all people are treated with respect. David ensures all lesson instructors and managers have full four-year college degrees in order to uphold a higher standard of operation.

Molly Smeltzer
Lesson Instructor

Molly has sixteen years experience in hunter/jumpers and can teach through first level in dressage in her skills set! She has taught small children, beginners and advanced level adults. She loves teaching and helping others to reach their full potential in riding at show level and ultimately for pleasure.

Trainer of Horses She has restarted many off the track Thorough Breds and has trained from the start many green horses for balance, speed collected walk trot and canter
positions as well as jumpers up to three feet levels over fences. Molly has also trained mustangs straight out of holdings, teaching them all foundational ground work, including trailering. She has also expertise in working with challenging and un predictable horses as part of her past expertise. Therefore, please consider Molly for training your problematic horse.

Meet Our Experts

Lessons are scheduled directly with the instructor. We require that you give the instructor 24 hours notice of cancellation when possible. All lessons are 1 hour in length and you may either ride one of our horses or trailer in your own. We ask all students to arrive at least 15 minutes early to allow time for catching, grooming, and tacking up their horses.
